Dove and Pigeon Hunting in Catamarca and Tucuman, Argentina
BIRD HUNTS
“Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me.”
-Genesis 27:3-
Argentina has the largest population of wild doves globally, and they are scattered across the entire country. The primary roosts for these prolific birds are located in Cordoba, Tucuman, and Salta. Fortunately for us, we have outstanding resources in all three areas. We also have a large population of both the big blue Picazurro and the spot-winged pigeons. Most international flights traditionally arrive in Buenos Aires and allow for a short (one-hour) connector flight into all of these areas. Our hunting facilities in Tucuman and Catamarca are both classy and comfortable, managed by Diego Guerineau, one of Argentina’s most reliable outfitters and an excellent wingshot himself. He is a well-organized and professional owner/operator, knowledgeable in hunting and cuisine. A stop with Diego is a highlighted wing shoot and a visit with some of Argentina’s better wines.
After arriving in Buenos Aires, you will fly to Tucuman or Rio Hondo, where Diego will meet you and drive you to your host lodge. In Tucuman, we reside in a well-appointed resort, right on the lake. In Catamarca, you will be at Diego’s personal lodge, La Emilia, nestled in the farmland, where you also might find a few perdiz in the fields surrounding the lodge. La Emilia has four rooms, equipped for double occupancy, but individual rooms for groups of four. Each morning, you will be up at a reasonable hour for a full breakfast, cooked to order, followed by a short trip to the open woodland area, where the pigeons love to feed. The shoot will last until lunchtime when you return to the estancia for a full lunch and a short nap before heading out for the afternoon shoot. This is a very busy shoot, with pigeons flying in from all directions. They are artful dodgers and provide a challenge for the best shooters. Much like ducks, these pigeons respond to decoys, offering some hot barreled shooting. The environment is beautiful in the woodlands, and the trees are spaced far enough apart to provide for excellent shooting. Our hunters say this is one of the best pigeon shooting areas globally, and we are very proud of the success we have enjoyed here. The food is deliciously prepared and artistically served by our chef and the staff team. The beds and accommodations are extremely comfortable, and the shooting is world-class. This is a trip perfectly designed for the dedicated wingshooter!
