Fantastic Duck & Goose Hunting

Since the border has now opened to US hunters, we are back in Canada for the coming season, and we’re already booking dates there.

One of our favorite chores in the sporting travel business is scouting!  We’re constantly on the lookout for exceptional outdoor adventures for our clients & friends.  The most recent great discovery and a place I plan to visit this year is our operation in Alberta, Canada.  This is one of those special places where the birds assemble for their annual migration south.  We’re the first cultivated fields the birds see as they begin their migration South, and our decoy set invites them to settle in with us.  We typically hunt geese in the mornings and ducks in the afternoon, but on several occasions, we have picked up a full 8 goose & 8 duck limit on the morning shoot, providing for a gangbuster waterfowl hunt.  When we have that kind of success, we spend the afternoon chasing snows, blues, and Ross’ geese.  We’re hunting mostly over grain & pea fields, but we use very comfortable A-Frame blinds, sitting on a stool, rather than lying down to hunt.  As I’ve gotten older, the lay-out blind has become most uncomfortable, and already being in position to shoot when the birds are trying to land in your decoys is much more fun for me.  We typically fly into Edmonton, rent a vehicle, and drive northeast, just over two hours to our lodge.  The lodge is a comfortable place to stay, and you’ll find photos of it in the Lodging section of our website.  We get up early for the birds, grabbing a snack & coffee before leaving for the pre-designated hunting spot.  After our limit is reached, we return to the lodge for a great brunch, take a short nap and head back out in the afternoons for the ducks.  When we’ve finished there, we head back to the lodge for a big dinner and plans for the following day.  This hunt is $3770, plus Canada’s 5% VAT tax, for 5 hunts, spread over three days.  It includes licenses, shells, guides, bird processing, food & lodging.  It does not include airfare, vehicle & gun rental, and tips.  We have consistently limited out on Canada geese, specklebellies, and occasional snows in the mornings and on mallards & pintails in the afternoons.  We’ve also picked up a few wigeon, gadwalls & teal, but it’s mostly pintails & mallards.  It’s a perfect hunt for 6 or 8 guys, and the A-frame blinds provide great cover and comfortable shooting for up to 8 hunters over the set.  We also have plenty layout blinds for anyone preferring to hide from the migrants while flat on the ground!  One of my favorite places to hunt!
